Checking for folded edges
A folded triangle is a triangle that has a very different orientation as opposed to its connecting neighbors. Severe kinks may even fold a triangle into its neighbors. You can also check for and collapse flat triangles using the other QC tools.
The algorithms in the Structure Builder work better when the input tri-meshes are smooth. Remove all flat and folded triangles as much as possible.
Use the Check Folded Edges tool (Model > 3D Structure > QC > Check Folded Edges) to search for triangles with sharp angles or folded onto the tri-mesh. Select a model, check the boxes for the tri-meshes of interest, specify a threshold and click Apply or OK to check for folded edges on tri-meshes. You can visualize edges in the selected tri-meshes where the surface is curved more strongly than the entered threshold value in the 3D view. The relevant edges are indicated in the display.
